Tiffany, exploded onto the pop scene in 1987 at age 15 with her chart-topping cover of “I Think We’re Alone Now.” The Tommy James and the Shondells classic spent two weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, propelled by her distinctive mall tour strategy that brought teen pop directly to suburban America. Her self-titled debut album, released on MCA Records, went quadruple platinum in the U.S., producing additional hits like “Could’ve Been,” which also hit No. 1 and made her the youngest female artist to top the Hot 100 with a debut album.

Throughout the late 1980s and early 1990s, Tiffany scored eight Top 40 singles, including “I Saw Him Standing There” and “All This Time.” Her sophomore album Hold an Old Friend’s Hand (1988) reached platinum status, while New Inside (1990) showcased a maturing sound. After a commercial dip, she re-emerged in the 2000s with independent country and adult-contemporary releases, including the critically praised A Million Miles (2016), proving her longevity beyond the teen-pop era.

More than a one-hit wonder, Tiffany became a cultural icon of late-80s bubblegum pop and the mall-concert phenomenon. Her red-haired, girl-next-door image and powerhouse voice influenced a generation of young fans and later artists like Britney Spears and the Disney Channel pop wave. With over 15 million records sold worldwide and continual touring, she remains a beloved symbol of 1980s nostalgia and resilient reinvention.

Her hit “I Think We're Alone Now” was featured in the new season of Stranger Things.
